Common Concerns During Pregnancy

It is always stressful when something goes wrong during pregnancy.  Even for women who are into their second or third pregnancies, if something unexpected happens during their term of pregnancy, there is always reason to be concerned. There are many possible things that can happen, but knowing what the common concerns of pregnancy are will help you deal with them:

1.  Vaginal Bleeding

This is often referred to as "spotting". You need to know however, if your vaginal bleeding is only slight or regular and heavy.  If your bleeding becomes too often, and pain accompanies it, then it's time to talk to your doctor about it. It can mean different things, from a polyp to an ectopic pregnancy or it might even be the start of labor already. The worst thing that may happen is a miscarriage, and letting your doctor know sooner about the bleeding will help prevent this from happening.

2.  Stomach Cramps

You may get a little confused about a growing pain and an actual stomach cramp. Whenever you get any kind of pain, try to relax and rest. If it is just gas, it normally will go away after resting.  If you don't get relief from the cramps, talk to your doctor about it. It may be the start of contractions already.

3.  Pain When Urinating

This may be a sign of a urinary tract infection, which is quite common during pregnancy. Usually doctors will just advise you to take plenty of water or may prescribe some antibiotics.  Taking in cranberry juice may also help.

4. Liquid Discharge

If your discharge is too much, it could be a sign that you are already in labor and your water broke.  If you're still far from your delivery date, however, it may mean something else.  Contact your gynecologist right away and go to the emergency room if the gushing of liquid does not stop.

Knowing what may possibly happen during your pregnancy is a good way to allay your fears.  Keeping yourself informed on the common concerns during pregnancy will tell you when it is time to call your doctor or head for the emergency room.

When any of the above happens, stay calm, and try not to add danger to you and your baby by panicking. Relax and talk to your partner and call your doctor to guide you on how you can deal with  your concerns.
